Celebrated for the warmth of his tone and the authority of his leadership, American violinist Timothy Braun is one of the most sought-after concertmasters of his generation. As First Concertmaster of the Saarländisches Staatsorchester Saarbrücken — a permanent position — he is regularly invited as guest concertmaster by the NDR Elbphilharmonie Orchester Hamburg, the Gürzenich Orchester Köln, the Stuttgarter Philharmoniker, the Badische Staatskapelle Karlsruhe, the Kammerphilharmonie Merck Darmstadt, the Hessisches Staatstheater Wiesbaden, and the Nationaltheater-Orchester Mannheim.
His orchestral journey has taken him across Europe with the Mahler Chamber Orchestra to concert platforms of the highest standing. As a concerto soloist, Braun has appeared with the Saarländisches Staatsorchester and the Landesjugendorchester Saar, and launched his solo career in California with the Westchester, Brentwood, Redlands, Peninsula, and Asia America Symphonies, the Pacific Philharmonic, and the Chamber Orchestra of the South Bay.
Born in Los Angeles, Braun gave his orchestral debut at the age of nine — a precocious beginning that foreshadowed a career of remarkable range. He has performed at the Concertgebouw Amsterdam and at landmark American venues including the Ravinia Festival, Lincoln Center, Avery Fisher Hall, Walt Disney Concert Hall, and the Hollywood Bowl. International festival appearances include Music@Menlo, Villa Musica, Kammermusikfest Kloster Kamp, the Niagara International Music Festival (Canada), the Pan Pacific Music Festival (Australia), and the Casalmaggiore Festival (Italy).
A committed chamber musician and educator, Braun serves as mentor with the Villa Musica Foundation and as violin and strings coach for the Landesjugendorchester Saar. He received his training at two of the world's foremost conservatoires: the Colburn School in Los Angeles under Robert Lipsett, holder of the Jascha Heifetz Distinguished Chair, and the Hochschule für Musik und Tanz Köln under Mihaela Martin, where he completed his Konzertexamen. He has also participated in programmes at The International Holland Music Sessions in Amsterdam and the Itzhak Perlman Chamber Music Institute in New York.
He lives in Saarbrücken, Germany.
